The Holy Prophet(sal,lal,la,lho,alai,he,wasalam) was soft spoken, kind hearted and caring person. He was very thoughtful and considerate. He sat with people with grace and good manners. If he did not like anything, he ignored it and did not utter any word of disapproval. He never interrupted other people’s conversation. He shared in their laughter and civilized humour.
He never spoke loudly or in an unseening manner. He was never harsh and never picked a quarrel with anybody. He enquired about people’s needs and requirements. The Holy Prophet(sal,lal,la,lho,alai,he,wasalam) used to stand up from feelings of love for some people when they came to meet him. For example, when his daughter, Hazrat Fatima, came to meet him, he often stood up and kissed her forehead.
He also stood up for his foster-mother, Bibi Halima, and spread a sheet of cloth for her to sit down. It was his habit that whenever he met anyone, he was the first to greet him and to shake hands. He did not withdraw his hand until the other did so and did not turn his face away until the other did so. He listened attentively to anyone who spoke to him.
When he went shopping in the market, he always passed by the people quietly with a smile. The Holy Prophet(sal,lal,la,lho,alai,he,wasalam) never used bad language. He never offended or humiliated anyone by his word or deed. Everyone sitting in his company felt that he was being treated with honour and respect. He was a perfect model of politeness and good behaviour.
It was this quality that won him the respect and admiration of not only his relatives and friends but also of his enemies.
