Tauhid – Oneness concept in islam
The first principle of Islam is belief in the Oneness of Allah. This is known as Tauhid. This means that Allah is single and unique. He does not have any partners, parents or children. He is the Supreme Being, the Creator and Master of the Universe. He is All-Knowing, All-Wise and All-Powerful. All the prophet and messengers preached about the unity of Allah. They declared that all human beings are His creations and subordinate to Him. Therefore, He alone is worthy of worship. This is expressed in the declaration
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰه
Laa ilaaha illal Lahoo Mohammadur Rasool Ullah
There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is His Messenger ‘.
The main emphasis of the Quran is upon the principle of Tauhid. There are many verses in the Quran which highlight this concept. For example Surah Ikhlas, which says:
“Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him
(112:1-4)
The balance and arrangement of the universe proves that there is One Supreme Being. If there were many gods, there would have been chaos and confusion in the universe. It is important that we should not associate Allah with any other being or object and submit and pray only to Him. We should have firm faith in Him and obey His Commands that He sent to us through His last messenger, Hazrat Muhammad(sal, lal,la,ho,alai,he,wasalam).
