Prophethood
Belief in Prophethood or Risalat is an article of faith in Islam. Prophethood is Allah’s blessing and favour that He bestows on whom He chooses. These chosen people are called prophets or messengers.
Allah chose them from different nations and sent them to convey His teachings to the people and to guide them. A prophet only communicated what had been revealed to him from Allah. He also confirmed what was revealed before him.
Prophets were human beings. Allah sent prophets to mankind from amongst themselves because a man can best serve as a guide and example for his own race. All prophets were pious and truthful people.
They were the best people in their community. This was necessary because their lives served as an example and model for their followers.
According to a saying of Hazrat Muhammad(sal, lal,la,ho,alai,he,wasalam)”, the number of Prophets is one hundred and twenty four thousand. The Quran mentions only twenty-five prominent ones. As Muslims, we must believe in all the prophets. Allah’s guidance to mankind began with Hazrat Adam(alai, his, salam) and was completed with Hazrat Muhammad(sal, lal,la,ho,alai,he,wasalam)”, the last Prophet of Allah.
